ELIZABETH, NJ– June 17, 2020 – East Coast Warehouse & Distribution, a leading temperature-controlled logistics provider to the food and beverage industry located on the Port of New York/New Jersey and in Philadelphia, today announced it has been named to Food Logistics’ Top Green Providers List for the fifth year in a row.
East Coast Warehouse was once again listed as a Top Green Provider for its comprehensive sustainability program, which includes the operation of a newly expanded solar powered warehouse that includes 4,950 high-efficiency solar modules and top of the line inverters at its company headquarters. The solar modules are expected to have a first-year targeted output of 2,009,247 kWH of clean, renewable energy, which is the equivalent to the annual electricity usage of 247 homes; 1,546,152 pounds of burned coal; 159,000 gallons of gasoline; 300 vehicles driven and 180,340,927 smartphones charged.
“We are honored to be recognized as an environmental steward by Food Logistics once again and are proud we have consistently maintained our position as an industry leader in sustainability,” said Jamie Overley, CEO of East Coast Warehouse. “Sustainability is an important aspect of our business – and we continue to focus on ways to reduce our environmental footprint. In addition to our solar panels, we have implemented a comprehensive recycling program, advanced motion sensing technology to help further decrease energy usage, and we are working towards a paperless environment through radio frequency (RF) and electronic data interchange (EDI) technologies.”
Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers list recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs; facilities that are LEED-certified, and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measured reductions in GHG emissions, to name a few.
“Our annual Top Green Providers award recognizes companies whose products, services or exemplary leadership enhances sustainability within the food and beverage industry. From technology that reduces a fleet’s carbon footprint, to software that helps shippers drive energy efficiency, to systems and processes that help reduce the carbon and environmental impact of its customers’ supply chains, these top green providers continue to practice the ultimate in sustainability year over year,” says Marina Mayer, Editor-in-Chief of Food Logistics.
