ELIZABETH, NJ – June 18, 2019 – East Coast Warehouse & Distribution, a leading temperature-controlled logistics provider to the food and beverage industry located on the Port of New York/New Jersey and in Philadelphia, today announced it has been named to Food Logistics’ Top Green Providers List for the fourth year in a row.
East Coast Warehouse was once again listed as a Top Green Provider for its comprehensive sustainability program, which includes the operation of a solar powered warehouse that produces more than 748,000 kWHr of clean renewable energy each year; state-of-the-art motion sensing technology that provides the most advanced energy-saving controls across its facilities; and a comprehensive recycling program that allows it to save more than two million pounds of cardboard and 288,000 pounds of plastic stretch wrap each year.
“We are honored to be recognized as an environmental steward by Food Logistics once again and are proud we have consistently maintained our position as an industry leader in sustainability,” said Jamie Overley, CEO of East Coast Warehouse. “Each year, we are adding to and expanding upon the systems we have in place to create efficiencies that further help reduce our environmental footprint. At East Coast Warehouse, action items can be as small as encouraging employees to recycle paper and save on printing, to as large as determining a plan for expanding the use of solar panels across additional warehouse buildings.”
Due to the success of the company’s sustainability program, it has plans to expand efforts through the addition of more solar panels to other campus buildings, further reducing its energy consumption. Additionally, it continues to move toward a paperless environment, with more than 90 percent of warehouse transactions now processed via radio frequency (RF) and electronic data interchange (EDI) technologies. The goal is to achieve 100 percent digital processing of both inbound and outbound operations by the end of the year.
Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers list recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs; facilities that are LEED-certified, and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measured reductions in GHG emissions, to name a few.
“Our Top Green Providers demonstrate leadership in sustainability throughout the global food supply chain, from better management of natural resources to technology applications and operational improvements that reduce food waste from the farm to the retailer to the end consumer,” notes Lara L. Sowinski, editorial director. “Environmental stewardship is a defining feature for these companies, as is their determination to continually raise the sustainability bar year after year.”
