East Coast Warehouse & Distribution Named to Food Logistics’ Top Green Provider List for 3rd Straight Year

ELIZABETH, NJJune 18, 2018 – East Coast Warehouse & Distribution, a leading temperature-controlled logistics provider to the food and beverage industry located on the Port of New York/New Jersey and in Philadelphia, today announced it has been named to Food Logistics’ Top Green Providers List for the third year in a row.

Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers list recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs; facilities that are LEED-certified, and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measured reductions in GHG emissions, to name a few.

“Environmental stewardship is something we take very seriously at East Coast Warehouse, and to be continually recognized by Food Logistics as a leader in sustainability is a true honor,” said Jamie Overley, CEO of East Coast Warehouse. “We currently operate one of the largest solar powered warehouses in the Northeast and are investing in solar energy across our other facilities as well. Additionally, we have and will continue to implement measures to reduce our environmental footprint across our organization overall – especially as we grow and expand.”

East Coast Warehouse was included as a Top Green Provider for its comprehensive sustainability program, which includes the operation of a solar powered warehouse that produces more than 650,000 kWHr of clean renewable energy each year; state-of-the-art motion sensing technology that provides the most advanced energy-saving controls across its facilities; and a comprehensive recycling program that allows it to save nearly two million pounds of cardboard and 250,000 pounds of plastic stretch wrap each year. The company recently converted its Jersey City facility from mercury vapor to T-8 lighting with motion sensors, reducing energy consumption by 60 percent. Additionally, the company plans to add solar panels to a second building at its Elizabeth, NJ headquarters – a 1.7-megawatt solar array that is estimated to reduce that building’s energy consumption by 80 percent.

“The agricultural sector and food supply chains at large have long recognized the importance of environmental stewardship for long-term sustainability in both business and for future food production globally,” notes Lara L. Sowinski, editorial director. “Food Logistics remains committed to promoting those in our industry who understand their leadership in sustainability and work to raise the bar with new products, services and strategies each year.”
