East Coast Warehouse & Distribution Named to Food Logistics’ Top Green Provider List for 2017

ELIZABETH, NJ – June 15, 2017 – East Coast Warehouse & Distribution, a leading temperature-controlled logistics provider to the food and beverage industry located on the Port of New York/New Jersey and in Philadelphia, today announced it has been named to Food Logistics’ Top Green Providers List for the second year in a row.

Food Logistics’ annual Top Green Providers list recognizes companies whose products, services, or exemplary leadership is enhancing sustainability within the food and beverage industry. Each year, the criteria for earning a spot on the list become more stringent for applicants. For example, the editorial staff evaluates a company’s participation in such programs as the EPA’s SmartWay and other recognized sustainability programs; facilities that are LEED-certified, and/or feature solar panels, LED lighting and other energy saving installations and retrofits that produce measured reductions in GHG emissions, to name a few.

“We are honored Food Logistics has once again recognized and honored our commitment to sustainability,” said Jamie Overley, CEO of East Coast Warehouse. “We are proud to call home one of the largest solar powered warehouses in the Northeast, and have plans to expand our use of solar panels to further reduce our energy consumption. Additionally, we have implemented measures across our business and buildings to continue to make a positive reduction in our environmental footprint.”

East Coast Warehouse was included as a Top Green Provider for its comprehensive sustainability program, which includes the operation of a solar powered warehouse that produces more than 650,000 kWHr of clean renewable energy each year; state-of-the-art motion sensing technology that provides the most advanced energy-saving controls across its facilities; and a comprehensive recycling program that allows it to save nearly two million pounds of cardboard and 250,000 pounds of plastic stretch wrap each year. The company recently converted its Jersey City facility from mercury vapor to T-8 lighting with motion sensors, reducing energy consumption by 60 percent. Additionally, the company plans to add solar panels to a second building at its Elizabeth, NJ headquarters – a 1.7-megawatt solar array that is estimated to reduce that building’s energy consumption by 80 percent.

“The future viability of the world’s food supply chain is dependent upon our ability to integrate sustainability from farm to fork,” says Lara L. Sowinski, editorial director. “Transportation and logistics comprise a significant part of that supply chain, and we commend those companies in our industry that embrace their role as environmental stewards, while raising the sustainability bar for their peers.”
